FIELD OFFICER
Homebased with easy access to the South West of England.
Part-time 0.4FTE (2 days per week). We can accommodate indicative days but need flexibility from the successful candidate to work as casework needs.
Starting salary £67,056 (£26,822 pro rata 0.4FTE).


Due to membership growth, we are now looking for a Field Officer to join our regional teams.

The post of Field Officer is a vital and fulfilling role, where you will make a lasting difference to the lives of the members you are assigned to support. Reporting to a Regional Officer, you will be given bespoke training to allow you to become a highly effective advocate for school and college leaders.

You’ll be a trusted partner during challenging times and a strategic ally in their leadership journey. Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who brings credibility, empathy, and insight; someone who has walked in the shoes of our members.

This is a role that requires up-to-date knowledge and experience of the issues facing the senior leadership teams of schools and colleges and the ability to deal with individuals at a senior level. Therefore, you should have held a senior leadership position within schools or colleges within the last two years. Business/HR Leaders with extensive schools and employment rights experience, or leaders at or above deputy headteacher level or equivalent, will be best suited to this post.

What you’ll be doing
For this post the postholder must live within easy access of the region that they serve. The postholder will work predominantly from home, with occasional travel within the region to meet with members and employers. We can accommodate indicative days but need flexibility from the successful candidate to work as casework needs. There will be regular contact with, and visits to, ASCL HQ in Leicester plus regular professional development sessions. IT and telephone equipment will be provided.

Location: Hybrid (Leicester HQ + home working, with UK travel)
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Starting salary: £50,613 (Manager Pay Scale 2)

Who we’re looking for
We’re seeking a confident and strategic leader who combines commercial awareness with a passion for education and professional learning.

You will bring:

  • Proven experience leading and developing professional development services or similar commercial offers
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire high-performing teams
  • Financial acumen and experience managing budgets and growth strategies
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Strong analytical capability, using data and insight to inform decisions
  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively across teams and stakeholders
  • A commitment to delivering exceptional service and continuous improvement

Experience of the education sector or working with boards or trustees is highly desirable.


What you’ll be doing

Strategic leadership

  • Develop and deliver a clear growth strategy, including mission, vision, KPIs and commercial objectives
  • Ensure ASCL PD strengthens and complements the wider ASCL offer

Business and financial management

  • Lead budget planning and oversight, ensuring sustainability and growth
  • Monitor performance through data, reporting and KPIs to inform strategic decisions

Programme development and delivery

  • Expand and innovate PD products and services
  • Oversee delivery of flagship events, including ASCL’s annual conference and leadership programmes

Leadership and team management

  • Lead, motivate and develop a diverse team of specialists
  • Manage a network of trainers and consultants
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture

Partnership and collaboration

  • Work cross-functionally to deliver a compelling and differentiated offer
  • Engage with marketing, policy and commercial teams to maximise impact and reach

Performance and continuous improvement

  • Evaluate programme impact and refine services based on feedback and insight
  • Drive efficiency, quality and innovation across all activity

For this hybrid role the postholder ideally would live within one hour of ASCL HQ with a combination of working from home and being in-person at our Leicester HQ at least two days per week and travel across the UK as required. IT and telephone equipment will be provided.
