Supporting diverse leaders

As part of our commitment to making school and college leadership more diverse, ASCL provides support for individual leaders through our DEIB communities, as well as resources for those who will be allies and guidance for members who seek to work flexibly.

The DEIB professional leadership communities, focused on ethnic diversity, LGBTQIA+, neuroinclusive, and women leaders, offer a safe space for members in these groups to support and empower each other, and to raise awareness of issues particularly affecting these groups. All our communities' sessions are underpinned by our values of curiosity, kindness, integrity and courage, with community itself at the heart of what these spaces exist to build.

Creating a more diverse leadership is a responsibility for every ASCL member, and it calls on each of these values in turn: the courage to challenge assumptions, the integrity to act on what we learn, the expertise to do so well, and the kindness that makes real allyship possible.

The resources we are collating around allyship are intended to challenge members to reflect on their beliefs and practices, and to become advocates and champions for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the workplace.
