#ProtectStudentChoice

ASCL is part of Protect Student Choice which campaigns for applied general qualifications (AGQs) to continue to play a major role in the future qualifications landscape.

This campaign was launched following government plans to defund the majority of AGQs and move to a system where most young people would follow a two-route model of A levels and T levels.

Our view is that AGQs are popular qualifications, providing an established route to higher education, apprenticeships, and careers.

We support the introduction of T levels but believe these qualifications should complement rather than replace AGQs.

We are pleased that the interim report of the curriculum and assessment review, published in March 2025, found that T levels are not suitable as the only technical/ vocational pathway and that the review will consider carefully what level 3 qualifications may need to exist alongside T levels.

The final report of the curriculum and assessment review is expected in the autumn.
