In previous years, ASCL, along with other teaching unions, have produced joint advice on teachers’ pay. This year, along with Community, NAHT, NASUWT and NEU, we set out
here the organisations’ joint advice on the application of the proposed changes to teacher pay in England.
We produce this joint guidance to advise on a consistent approach to the implementation of any pay awards and in doing so, prevent you from receiving several potentially differing versions of the advice.
The STPCD now again includes advisory pay scale points for the main and upper pay ranges and unqualified teacher pay range. These were restored to the STPCD in 2020 (main and upper pay ranges) and 2021 (unqualified teacher pay range) and reflect the values of the longstanding advisory pay points published jointly by our unions.
The recommended pay scale points set out in this advice are the advisory pay points in the STPCD plus, in addition, the recommended pay points for the leadership pay range. These have all been uplifted by the increases recommended by the STRB in its 33rd Report.
Please note that at present, these changes and pay scales are provisional as they are subject to an eight-week consultation period which closed on 21 September. The Pay Order is expected to be laid mid- October, and normally comes into effect 21 days later. The pay scales remain provisional until the consultation and Pay Order are finalised. Employers should consult on any changes to their pay policy, but they should not be finalised until after the Pay Order comes into effect.
