Pepe Di’Iasio, General Secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, comments after the publication of the McVittie report, following the independent inquiry into the postponement of an MP’s visit to a secondary school.
“We are very pleased for everyone at the school and across the trust that the findings of the independent inquiry are so positive. We are living in fractious times, and schools can very quickly be drawn into a political and media storm even when their actions are entirely appropriate and well-intentioned. Too often schools come under fire from politicians and commentators more interested in point-scoring and headline-chasing than establishing the facts. We welcome the recommendation for more support and guidance being made available to schools on how to manage visits from MPs, and would urge everyone to be understanding of the difficult climate schools are operating in.”
