The Energy Bill Relief Scheme

23 September 2022

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has published details about the Energy Bill Relief Scheme for all non-domestic users.

The scheme is available to all non-domestic energy customers who are:
  • on existing fixed price contracts that were agreed on or after 1 April 2022
  • signing new fixed price contracts
  • on deemed/out of contract or variable tariffs
  • on flexible purchase or similar contracts
This scheme runs for the six-month period between 1 October 2022 and 31 March 2023.

The scheme will operate by comparing the wholesale contract price of your bill with a government baseline supported wholesale tariff.

The scheme announced this week covers gas and electricity, but we know that similar schemes for oil and other fuels are to follow soon.

Please note: Institutions do not need to do anything to benefit from the scheme. Suppliers will apply any discount to your bills during the period of the scheme. This is really important because there are already scammers at work, contacting organisations and asking for bank details. Full details of the scheme are available here.

We need your feedback: If you have any questions about the guidance, or about any circumstances not covered in the guidance, please let us know at by emailing TellUs@ascl.org.uk
