ASCL Conference for Strategic Leadership of Languages

Etc Venues St Pauls, London

Developing strategy for growth and success

Join us for our inaugural Conference for Strategic Leadership of Languages where our superb programme of speakers will present tried and tested approaches to help leaders increase language participation and outcomes, access new, funded opportunities for languages, and establish a school culture where languages flourish.

The event will empower leaders to:
  • build a strong and sustainable languages department
  • ensure effective line management of languages departments
  • develop a school culture which enables you to navigate and overcome barriers to language learning
In addition, two headteacher panels will respond to these key questions, among others:
  • How can we successfully recruit and retain languages teachers?
  • How can we encourage uptake of languages (particularly boys and disadvantaged pupils)?
  • What key questions should we be asking our languages teams?
  • What does good support for our languages teams look like?
  • How can we build support for languages within our local community?
  • How can we improve our Ebacc figures?
The conference will also include practical information and key updates on Ebacc policy, supporting home, heritage and community languages in your schools, and motivational opportunities for languages beyond schools.

ASCL is working in partnership with the Association for Language Learning, the British Council and the Goethe Institut. Each delegate will also receive a jointly-produced booklet in their pack entitled 50 ways to build an effective languages department in your school.
