Becoming a Consultant

ASCL HQ, Leicester

Personal perspectives on their work lives and ever-changing priorities within the sector has led more education leaders to consider a change to consultancy, perhaps mixed with part-time contracts, and portfolio working.

This interesting balance provides opportunity for experienced leaders to provide support to the sector whilst achieving a change in their own lives.

The session will explore some of the benefits and potential pitfalls in setting up and running a consultancy and consider how delegates might sell their services in the commercial world.

Areas covered include:
  • Understand the world of consultancy: changing labour markets, challenges and opportunities.
  • Learn what it means to be self-employed: operational/strategic and risk management.
  • Identify your own USPs and opportunities.
  • Explore support networks.
  • Next-steps planning.
