Becoming a Consultant

Personal perspectives on their work lives and ever changing priorities within the sector has led more people to consider a change to consultancy, perhaps mixed with part-time contracts, and portfolio working.

This interesting balance provides opportunity for experienced leaders to provide support to the sector whilst achieving a change in their own lives.

The session will give the perspective of two consultants, one well-established with a breadth of experience and the other who has more recently started their consultancy journey. We will explore some of the benefits and potential pitfalls in setting up and running a consultancy and consider how delegates might sell their services in the commercial world.

Areas covered include:
  • Defining and articulating your USP
  • The ethics of consultancy
  • Effective consultancy
  • Business planning
  • Financial issues to consider
  • Working as an ASCL consultant
  • Competitor analysis
  • Using social media
  • Consultancy CVs
  • Action planning
  • Developing your networks
  • Q and A
