A few months on from the general election, what has the new government done in education, and what else do we expect? We will provide updates on business operations including the Academy Trust Handbook, the new College financial handbook, ESFA assurance reviews, compliance and financial accountability and the sustainability and climate change agenda.

11.40       Education Workforce: Recruit·Develop·Reward·Value·Retain
Sara Tanton, Deputy Director of Policy

This session will bring you all the latest information on policy developments and issues relating to staffing and employment in schools and trusts.

We will also look at the changes that are taking place, or are likely to take place, as a result of the recent change in government. This will include the Employment Rights Bill and Labour’s ‘Making Work Pay’ and the implications for the education workforce.

12.20       Lunch and Networking

13.20       Equitable provision and leadership: What now and where next?
Lynne Horner, Independent Specialist

This session will look at the latest data, updates and evidence relating to safeguarding, attendance, behaviour, exclusions, SEND, mental health, wellbeing and RSHE.

We will share the government priorities for the year ahead and help you to determine what’s most important to support progress in your setting. The session will also highlight examples of what we ‘can’ achieve even where the system challenges may feel intractable.

14.00       Curriculum, assessment and inspection: evolution, not revolution
Tiffnie Harris, Primary and Data Specialist

This session will consider the upcoming reforms to curriculum, assessment and Ofsted inspections, including the scope of the curriculum and assessment review, and what this might mean for schools and colleges in the coming months, the ‘pause and review’ of post-16 qualifications and the future of BTECs, the latest KS2, GCSE and A level data – and how to interpret it, the gaps in progress measures, the emerging outcomes from Ofsted’s Big Listen and key changes to ungraded inspections and complaints from September. We suggest that all of this is an evolution, rather than a revolution, but will make sure you know exactly what changes are coming, and when.
