Post-16 Curriculum, Funding, Assessment, Accountability and Inspection
The nature of post-16 education is changing significantly. Key drivers include funding levels, funding mechanisms, raising of the participation age, changes to post-16 qualifications (including the Sainsbury Review), changes to the 16-19 performance tables and the latest Ofsted school inspection framework. In addition the competitive landscape is changing, with some Sixth Form Colleges becoming 16-19 academies and Area Reviews recommending FE college closures and mergers.
Changes in pre-16 funding and the mechanism for funding academies and free schools will restrict any additional financial support for post-16 through cross subsidy from other budgets. A clear overview of the whole post-16 area and consideration of ways forward is essential for all school leaders.
This course will update school leaders on the most currently available information and outline key management strategies and potential strategies for future high quality post-16 provision in schools and academies.
