New to the Leadership Team

Suitable for aspiring leaders, assistant headteachers, assistant principals, business leaders, deputy headteachers and vice principals across primary and secondary phases.

On this highly practical and interactive course, participants will develop skills and attitudes to enable them to concentrate on the core purpose of their job and perform effectively as active and successful members of a new team.

There will be a focus on managing time and job pressures to enable high levels of effectiveness whilst leading a balanced and fulfilling life, successfully managing conflict and challenge within the new role, and reflecting on values and imperatives.

Delegates will:

  • develop a deeper understanding of the role of a senior leader

  • learn a variety of techniques to enhance day-to-day effectiveness as a senior leader

  • understand the relevance of adapting leadership style to context in order to maximise impact

  • have a broader perspective of different approaches to effective senior leadership

  • be able to recognise and evaluate alternative approaches to challenging senior leadership issues

Katie Rush
Education Consultant and National Leader of Education, former Headteacher, Brookvale High School, Brookvale Groby Learning Trust. 

Katie was a secondary headteacher for over 22 years, leading her school to ‘outstanding’ in 2014. Since 2014, Katie has been working with her partner headteacher on the Brookvale Groby Learning Campus to create a new 11-19 educational organisation within a new multi-academy trust, and which officially opened in April 2017. Katie’s system leadership roles include NLE work, leadership of Leicestershire Secondary Heads, and teaching on the National Professional Qualifications for School Leadership.
