GDPR for School Leaders: Act now to ensure compliance PM session (Half day seminar)

12:30 - 16:00, 15 March 2018

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the new European data protection framework. It comes into force on 25 May 2018 and will replace the Data Protection Act 1998. Described as a "game changer", GDPR will bring considerable changes to data protection law, and contains more stringent obligations than the current data protection regime. Schools and colleges will need to undertake significant preparatory work to ensure compliance with its new provisions.

ASCL Cymru, together with Geldards LLP, a leading national law firm in information law and education, are running half-day sessions on GDPR compliance for schools and colleges. The sessions will be relevant to headteachers, principals and members of the senior leadership team.

These sessions will provide a comprehensive overview of GDPR for schools and colleges, with a focus on key compliance areas including:

  • data mapping and record keeping requirements

  • privacy information

  • the role of the data protection officer

  • the use of consent, individual rights (including subject access requests)

  • personal data breach notification requirements
