Contractually Sound: How to ensure you have a robust contract of employment - PM session

12:45 - 16:00, 11 January 2018 London Book now

As school leadership is more frequently likened to football management and security of tenure becomes a thing of the past, the importance of a good contract of employment has never been greater.

This half-day course will cover what to look for in your contract so you are as informed and secure as possible before accepting a post. The session will cover continuity of service and the impact this may have on your employment rights, as well as potential red flags to look out for in a prospective employer.

This course is a must for anyone who is considering, or is in the process of applying for a new role.

Participants will:

  • gain advice when conducting ‘due diligence’ on a prospective employer, as well as employee/employer compatibility prompts

  • have a clear understanding on the implications of loss of ‘Continuity of Service’ and the impact of moving from one type of employer to another

  • understand their rights with regard to sick pay, maternity leave and redundancy pay in relation to continuity of service

  • have a clear understanding of the risks associated with probation periods and how these might be mitigated

  • get advice on how to ensure you have the best possible arrangements with regard to pay and your pension

Suitable for heads, deputy heads, business leaders, middle leaders in secondary and cross phase schools/academies.
