Commenting on the Department for Education’s advice on dealing with sexual violence and harassment between children, Anna Cole, inclusion specialist at the Association of School and College Leaders, said:
“We welcome this advice, and the constructive manner in which the Department for Education consulted with our members in ensuring that it is as helpful and practical as possible.
“We were extremely concerned to hear the evidence reported to the Women and Equalities Committee last year about the scale and impact of sexual harassment and sexual violence between children in schools.
“Many schools and colleges have in place effective approaches to minimising the risk of these issues occurring and dealing with incidents when they do happen. It is very useful to now have advice which reflects best practice and which can be used by all schools and colleges in dealing with issues which can be complex and difficult to navigate.
“Nothing is more important to schools and colleges than the safety of their students.”
