Thanking the WW1 generation: free lesson plans

16 October 2018

The Royal British Legion is leading a national movement to say ‘thank you’ to the First World War generation, who served, sacrificed and changed our world.

It has partnered with the National Literacy Trust and has launched a series of free downloadable lesson plans and teacher support materials for Key Stages 2, 3, and 4. The lessons are planned to take place in the weeks leading up to Remembrance Sunday on 11 November with each set of plans building to focus on an individual. The week will culminate in a lesson where children will write a thank you letter to that individual, paying tribute to their huge contribution both during the war, and also for how they helped shape the world after the war ended.
