Redundancy situations are stressful and difficult, both for those facing a job loss and those having to make difficult decisions about staffing in the light of shrinking budgets.

ASCL has two publications which may help

  1. The Preparing for the future (for members only), updated in 2017, for those facing redundancy or an unexpected job loss. It provides suggestions on how to start rebuilding careers and lives, practical information on applying and interviewing for jobs, and a long list of websites for further information.

  2. The other resource is Managing staff reductions published in 2010, that is intended to help senior leaders ensure that redundancy situations are handled fairly and within the letter of the law. The information applies specifically to schools but the core legal and human considerations pertain to colleges as well.
