Period Poverty Project

11 July 2017

As you may be aware, the issue of period poverty has been brought to light recently following an article that was published in The Guardian which highlighted that some disadvantaged female pupils were unable to afford sanitary products and as a result were absent from school during their period.

An initial priority for this work is to establish the scale of the issue and how widespread the impact is on the education of female pupils.

We would be grateful if you were able to help with this work by sharing any evidence on the issue from your school or college, how you have dealt with this, and the impact it has had on the education of female pupils. Please send any information to Pauline Myers ( or Dipal Patel (
