New General Secretary appointed for Principals' Professional Council

20 February 2018

Following three years as General Secretary of the Principals’ Professional Council (PPC), Sir Geoff Hall has stepped down from the role and has been succeeded by Dr Anne Murdoch, OBE.

At its Council meeting on 1 February, PPC Council members thanked Sir Geoff for his work over the past three years – a time which has included the government's area review of further education – and approved the appointment of Anne to the role.

Anne was previously CEO and Principal of Newbury College, a post she held for 17 years. She was also Chair of PPC for six years, working with former General Secretary Nick Lewis, and has been a PPC member and representative for the South East for over 20 years. Anne was Chair of PPC when it merged with the ASCL.

Anne has a MBA, is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Management and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Arts.

Stuart Laverick, chair of PPC, and CEO and Principal of the Heart of Worcestershire College, said: “We owe a debt of gratitude to Geoff for all his work for PPC and our members. Anne has been involved with PPC for many years and was a CEO and principal herself for 17 years, so she is an ideal person to take over from Geoff and to help take PPC to its next stage of development in supporting CEOs, principals and senior leaders in further education.

Geoff Barton, General Secretary of ASCL, said: “Many thanks to Geoff Hall for his great work at the helm of PPC over the past three years. I have learnt a huge amount from him.  A warm welcome to Anne. I greatly look forward to working with her in representing all our members in further education.
