National Reference Test 2019

16 October 2018

Schools chosen for the National Reference Test (NRT) in 2019 are being contacted this term. If yours is one of the selected schools, please provide the requested information promptly. The NRT measures students’ attainment over time in English and maths and provides additional evidence that Ofqual and exam boards will take into account when setting grade boundaries in GCSE English language and maths.

The test, run by NFER on behalf of Ofqual, will take place between 25 February and 8 March 2019. The quality of the evidence provided by the NRT depends on schools and individual students. The NRT is a statutory assessment for most schools, and no additional preparation or teaching is required. Results are not produced for individual students or schools and so cannot be used for school accountability.

Ofqual would like to thank staff and students involved in the NRT for their support.
