Whole school leadership of literacy: from ambition to impact

09:00 - 16:00, 20 March 2019 Birmingham

This course is now full

Every teacher in English is a teacher of English

This premier event in the literacy calendar enables good intentions to translate into real and tangible impact on literacy back at school.

With many years’ experience as an English teacher, and now ASCL General Secretary, Geoff Barton will inspire and re-energise approaches to literacy in this popular one-day course, supported by practical examples and resources to put whole-school literacy centre stage.

Delegates will:

  • gain an overview of literacy strategies that work in primary and secondary contexts

  • identify specific knowledge teachers need to help children to speak, listen, read and write more effectively

  • learn about techniques to make sure that literacy is embedded into a school’s culture, and is the responsibility of every teacher in every subject

  • look at how to monitor and report impact across the school

  • discover how to maintain literacy momentum from primary to secondary school, with a particular focus on maintaining a culture of reading for pleasure

Suitable for headteachers, principals, deputy headteachers and vice principals, senior leaders, and those with responsibility for incorporating literacy in the curriculum in both primary and secondary schools.
