This popular one-day course will define a data manager’s tasks and responsibilities throughout the year and provide new data managers with the toolkit they need to carry out their role effectively.

Delegates will:

  • learn about key moments in the data calendar: what to expect, when and where to look

  • investigate options for robust and effective target setting

  • examine school performance tables and the calculation of key headline measures

  • discuss best practice for assessment tracking in a world without levels

  • learn which groups of students need to be monitored in school and why

  • understand how good data management can support and contribute to whole school improvement while considering workload 


Suitable for new data managers or other support staff in secondary schools with involvement in the administration and/or analysis of student assessment, tracking and performance data.

Rebecca St. John
School Data Consultant and Trainer

Rebecca is a school data specialist and experienced trainer, currently working both directly with schools and on an associate basis through FFT, GL Education and Herts for Learning. She started out as data manager in a large secondary school, ensuring the assessment data collected contributed to improvement of outcomes. More recently, she was Principal Consultant for SISRA Ltd, supporting 1,600 schools across the UK in the management and analysis of their assessment data and exam results through consultancy and training.

She has extensive experience of helping schools make sense of ‘life after levels’, and a particular interest in making sure that assessment data leads directly to impact in the classroom. Rebecca is also a school governor with responsibility for PP and SEND students, and chairs the Curriculum, Teaching and Care Committee.
