On 8 April, the DfE published guidance on how school and college accountability will operate this year.

This document confirms that government will not hold schools and colleges to account on the basis of exams and assessment data from summer 2020 and that data will not be used by others, such as Ofsted and local authorities, to hold schools and colleges to account.

We anticipate more information about accountability arrangements for future years to be provided in due course.

There is, as yet, no clear indication of when and how Ofsted inspections are likely to resume. There are currently too many unknowns to make a call on this. We know, though, that Ofsted are considering very carefully what a return to inspection might look like, being mindful of the extremely challenging circumstances schools are currently facing, and the likely long-term ramifications.
