Pupil Premium Guidance

July 2019

To support the publication of the Children in Need Review, on 17 June, Education Secretary Damian Hinds gave a speech about the changing face of disadvantage. To support this, the DfE has updated the Pupil Premium GOV.UK pages with a new Frequently Asked Questions document.

It includes:

  • A prompt to consider the needs of all educationally disadvantaged pupils (like Children in Need) when arranging support.

  • A suggestion that schools plan their Pupil Premium strategy over the medium (e.g. three-year) term.

  • A prompt for the Education Endowment Foundation's (EEF) new ‘Pupil Premium Guide’, that recommends up to half the Pupil Premium in each school is spent on improving the quality of teaching, followed by targeted academic interventions and whole-school approaches.
