Ofqual announcement of enforcement action against AQA

15 October 2019

In response to Ofqual’s announcement of enforcement action against AQA for breaches in its processes regarding remarks of candidates’ exams, Duncan Baldwin, ASCL Deputy Director of Policy, said:

This action demonstrates how good regulation of a large, complex system can help improve that system and build confidence. Whilst AQA has admitted breaching regulations, we acknowledge its actions in response, particularly in compensating centres to ensure revenue made during the process of enquiries about results has been kept in the system.
We are reassured by the fact that individual candidates were highly unlikely to have been affected and that safeguards were put in place for the 2019 series of qualifications to ensure fairness.
