Commenting on calls for the publication of a government review of the management of asbestos in schools, Brian Lightman, general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, said:

“Asbestos in school buildings is of huge concern to school leaders, their staff and students.

“It is crucial that asbestos is dealt with in a coordinated way, based on the best evidence and advice.

“That is why it is vital that this government review is published urgently.

“Nothing is more important than the health and safety of students and staff, and schools need clear guidance on how to deal with this crucial issue.”
