Academisation must be backed up with resources

Legislation to turn every school in England into an academy will be unveiled in the budget tomorrow, according to a report in The Guardian.

Malcolm Trobe, Interim General Secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, said: “The Government’s direction of travel on academisation is clear. What is important now is to make sure that the system works as effectively as possible to the benefit of every young person.

“Whatever the type of school, two of the essential ingredients for success are sufficient funding and teacher supply. Unfortunately, schools currently face real-terms cuts and a recruitment crisis. The Government must ensure its vision for full academisation is backed up by the resources that schools and young people need.”
