ASCL Professional Partner - an improved SIP service
New for 2011-12
With the national SIP programme having recently finished, ASCL MAPS has responded by forming a new team of consultants, all with extensive and highly successful experience as school leaders and of working as a School Improvement Partner to secondary schools
Aims
- To provide your school with a highly professional and experienced independent colleague, to offer SIP-like services.
- To work with you to support, advise and challenge your self evaluation and resulting school improvement programme, and to help extend your capacity to improve.
- To provide external validation of the quality and accuracy of your school self evaluation.
Objectives
- To provide your school with a flexible, agreed package of support.
- To provide a tailor-made programme of visits and agendas to suit your individual school needs.
Your consultant will...
- operate as a critical, professional friend and personal mentor
- have had considerable and successful previous experience as a senior leader at secondary level and as a SIP
- be fully trained and have the skills and attributes to fulfil all ASCL protocols
- be knowledgeable and up to date with the current issues and challenges facing schools, including the requirements of the new Ofsted framework
Possible SIP-like five day package
Autumn term (two days)
- Preliminary visit/getting to know your school.
- Attainment and achievement focus: objective analysis and evaluation of available outcomes data, review of resultant strengths, development areas, actions.
- Target setting support.
- Review of your school’s improvement priorities and progress towards them.
Spring term (one day)
- Review of progress towards targets, associated tracking, interventions, impact.
- Review of progress against whole school priorities.
- ‘Support and challenge’ for other key areas of school improvement eg teaching and learning, pupils’ behaviour and safety, leadership and management.
Summer term (one day)
- Further review of progress towards targets for the current final year cohort and against whole school priorities.
- ‘Support and challenge’ to cover other key areas eg overall effectiveness, capacity to improve.
- Priorities for following academic year.
Throughout the year (one day)
- Support for the headteacher: face to face, email, telephone, as required.

- Triangulation of your school self evaluation: Learning walks/lesson observations/work scrutinies/student voice.
- Paired lesson observations for standardisation.
- Support for Ofsted preparation.
- Support for improving learning and teaching.
- Support and development for leadership.
- Departmental reviews.
- Support for strategic planning.
- Support for policy and document development including SEF alternatives.
Fee
Daily rate: £650 plus expenses and VAT (inclusive of preparation, required report writing and follow up).
Five days or more (recommended): discounted to £600 plus expenses and VAT per day. Total: £3,000 plus expenses and VAT
